Custody Bureau

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Custody Division is responsible for the safe, secure, and humane operation of the largest jail system in the United States. Custody personnel oversee the care, supervision, and management of individuals housed in LASD facilities, ensuring safety for staff, inmates, and the public while maintaining constitutional standards and professional accountability.

Beyond security, the Custody Division plays a critical role in rehabilitation and reentry. Deputies work closely with medical, mental health, and program staff to provide services that reduce recidivism, promote behavioral change, and prepare individuals for successful reintegration into the community. Through professionalism, vigilance, and leadership, the Custody Division supports the Sheriff’s Department’s broader mission of public safety, justice, and service to the residents of Los Angeles County.
